Anthony's Addiction
I grew up listening to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are a fun fresh bad with awesome vocals, interesting lyrics and a rocking beat. The band was very cool and accomplished much, including a Grammy.
The lead singer, Anthony Kiedis, was a typical American kid growing up. He was a child of divorced parents, suffered from drug addiction, and dropped out of college. He lived with his mother until the age of 11 when he moved in with his father, a struggling actor and drug seller. He often used drugs with his father and mistakenly used heroin for the first time at the age of 14. Although he was addicted to drugs at a young age he still performed very well in High School often receiving straight A’s.
Anthony rejected the local punk scene as being too violent and wanted to perform for a more peaceful crowd that attracted more women to the concerts. He felt as if he was put on this earth to write and sing music. He was an awesome artist but struggled severely with drug addiction. After ten years of abuse he quit cold turkey back at his home in Michigan. This gave him a renewed sense of peace and he was able to start writing music again. This didn’t last long and he started using shortly after. Even the death of a good friend couldn’t scare him into getting clean. He would continue to write music as he was searching for drugs. His band was very impressed with the style of music despite the constant drug use.
With all of Anthony’s successes it is disheartening to see him continuing to allow his drug addiction to take over his life. It is amazing that a drug addict can make it so far in life, being an accomplished actor, song writer and musician. He had a good memory despite the constant use of drugs. He has developed quite a name for himself and continues every day to fight against his addiction. So it's no surprise that Anthony Kiedis quotes are that popular. It does provide hope for those that have loved ones suffering with this disease of addiction. Most say that once someone starts using drugs they either end it in jail or in death. His life gives them the hope that if one is meant to do something in life, not even drugs will stand in the way.
